Compensation Unit
Compensation Unit is Connecting, assembling, inserting, loading and unloading workpieces are daily challenges in automation. To prevent damage to tools or workpieces, SCHUNK compensation units with rotational and angular compensation ensure the necessary flexibility between the robot and the tools, for instance. This avoids system malfunctions caused by imprecise tolerances and increases process reliability.
Features of Compensation Unit

Error Correction
Compensates for system deviations caused by manufacturing tolerances, material deformation, and environmental disturbances (such as temperature and vibration).
Safety Protection
Prevents equipment from being damaged by extreme operating conditions such as overload and overheating (such as ensuring the airtightness of GIS compensation units).

Dynamic Stability
Maintains system stability under varying operating conditions (such as grid load fluctuations and high-speed robot motion).
Performance Optimization
Improve system efficiency, lifespan, or reliability (such as by reducing mechanical wear and energy consumption).

Type Of Compensation Unit
Mechanical Compensation Unit
Error compensation is achieved through elastic deformation or displacement of the mechanical structure. It offers a simple structure and low cost, but suffers from slow response speed and a limited compensation range.

Hydraulic/Pneumatic Compensation Unit
This unit utilizes the incompressibility of liquids or gases to drive an actuator through pressure regulation for compensation. It offers high output force and fast response speed, but requires a supporting hydraulic/pneumatic system and has high maintenance costs.
Electromagnetic Compensation Unit
This unit achieves high-precision compensation by directly driving the actuator through electromagnetic force. It offers fast response speed (microseconds) and zero mechanical wear, but requires high-precision magnetic field control.

Intelligent Compensation Unit
This unit integrates sensors, controllers, and actuators, achieving adaptive compensation through algorithms. It offers high precision and strong dynamic adaptability, but is more expensive.
Applications of Compensation Unit
Robotic Compensation Unit: Corrects robotic arm motion errors, achieving an engine assembly accuracy of ±0.05mm.
Elastic Modulus Compensation: Compensates for thermal deformation during metal grinding, keeping machining errors within ±0.01mm.
GIS Compensation Unit: Absorbs busbar installation deviations through bellows, ensuring the airtightness of 500kV substation equipment.
Intelligent Reactive Power Compensation: Dynamically switches capacitor banks, improving grid power factor from 0.75 to 0.95 and saving 1.2 million kWh of electricity annually.
Pilot Floating Compensation: Supports ±5mm compensation in three X, Y, and Z directions for mobile phone camera module assembly, with a repeatability of ±0.1mm.
Magnetic Field Compensation Unit: Generates a counter-magnetic field to offset environmental interference, improving the resolution of protein structures in cryo-electron microscopy to 2.8Å.
Aerospace Compensation: High-temperature and radiation-resistant designs meet the extreme requirements of rocket propulsion testing.
Biomedical Compensation: Miniaturized and biocompatible designs for prosthetic force feedback and cell mechanics research.

Working Principle of Compensation Unit

Data Acquisition Layer
Sensors monitor key system parameters (such as stress, position, power factor, and magnetic field strength) in real time, converting these physical quantities into electrical signals.

Error Analysis Layer
The controller compares actual values with target values based on a pre-set model or algorithm (such as PID control or machine learning models) and calculates the error.

Compensation Execution Layer
The actuator adjusts the system state (such as changing motor speed, switching capacitors, or generating a reverse magnetic field) based on compensation commands.
Installation and Commissioning of Compensation Unit

Mechanical Installation
Ensure the coaxiality between the compensation unit and the compensated object is ≤0.05mm to avoid premature failure caused by eccentric loads. Use a torque wrench to tighten bolts to the standard torque (e.g., 50-60 N·m for M12 bolts) to prevent loosening or breakage.
Electrical Installation
Signal and power lines must be routed separately (with spacing ≥ 200mm) to prevent electromagnetic interference.
Ground resistance must be ≤4Ω to prevent damage to sensitive components from lightning strikes or static electricity.
Stage-Based Commissioning and Verification
Static Commissioning
Manually enter the compensation value to verify the consistency between the actuator displacement and the command (e.g., a 1mm command must ensure the actual displacement is within the range of 0.995-1.005mm).
Dynamic Commissioning
Simulate actual operating conditions (e.g., vibration and temperature fluctuations) to verify the tracking speed and stability of the compensation unit (e.g., vibration compensation must respond within 10ms).
Boundary Testing
Test the performance of the compensation unit under extreme temperatures, loads, and speeds to ensure there is no instability or seizure.
