Advantages of Roller Rail
High Rigidity
Rollers and raceways utilize line contact (sliding guides utilize surface contact), resulting in a large contact area and 3-5 times greater bending stiffness, making them particularly suitable for heavy-load, high-speed applications (such as crossbar guides in gantry machining centers).
High Load Capacity
Roller diameters typically range from 5 to 20 mm, allowing them to withstand radial, axial, and tilting moments. Their dynamic load rating is 2-3 times higher than that of ball guides.
Low Friction and High Precision
Rolling friction reduces starting torque by 70-90%, significantly improving motion smoothness and enabling micron-level positioning accuracy.
Long Life and Reliability
Rolling elements have a low wear rate and a lifespan of 50,000-100,000 km (based on travel), more than 10 times that of sliding guides. While sliding guides require scraping and lapping every three months, roller guides only require grease relubrication every one to two years.
Type of Roller Rail
Full-Ball Roller Guides
Rollers are densely packed without spacing between the guide rail and the slider, and a reverser is used to achieve circulating motion. They are used in heavy-duty CNC machine tools, industrial robot joints, and automated production line conveyor systems.
Circulating Roller Guides
Rollers are separated by cages or spacers and circulate between the guide rail and the slider. The reverser design is more complex. They are used in semiconductor lithography equipment, precision measuring instruments, and high-speed packaging machinery.

Guide Rails and Sliders
The guide rails are fixed to the base, while the slides are connected to the moving parts. These two elements are precision-ground to form V-shaped, rectangular, or dovetail-shaped raceways.
Roller Arrangement
Rollers are arranged between the guide rails and slides in a staggered or fully loaded configuration. A reverser is used to achieve infinite recirculation (similar to the recirculating principle of a ball screw).
Load Transfer
During motion, the rollers roll within the raceways, converting sliding friction into rolling friction. The friction coefficient can be as low as 0.001-0.003 (0.1-0.3 for sliding guides), significantly reducing energy consumption and heat generation.
Installation And Maintenance Notes Of Roller Rail
Base Accuracy: The guide rail mounting surface flatness must be ≤0.01mm/1000mm, and the roughness Ra must be ≤1.6μm.
Alignment Adjustment: Use a laser interferometer or micrometer to calibrate the guide rail parallelism. The error must be within ±0.005mm/1000mm.
Tightening Torque: Use a torque wrench according to the instructions (e.g., 50-60N·m for M12 bolts) to prevent loosening or breakage.
Lubrication Method: Lithium-based grease (such as NLGI No. 2) is preferred. Automatic lubrication systems (such as progressive distributors) are also acceptable.
Lubrication Interval: Relubricate every 100 hours for high-speed, heavy-load operation; every 500 hours for low-speed, light-load operation.
A metal scraper and rubber seal are provided to prevent chips and coolant from entering the raceway.
Cleaning Requirements: Wipe the guide rail surface daily with a dust-free cloth. Avoid using corrosive cleaners.
Unusual noise: This may indicate roller damage or insufficient lubrication. The machine should be shut down for inspection and replacement.
Stuck motion: Check the guide rail parallelism and preload for excessive tension. Adjust to a reasonable range.
